Choosing a host for your domain can be frustrating. There are thousands
of companies and most of them offer dozens of packages and options. Worse, unless you do quite a bit of research ahead of time, your chances of having a good experience with a host is a crap shoot. These companies cover the range of customer service from none to horrendous to okay to great, but most of them are somewhere between horrendous and okay. That isn't too surprising given that so many are just resellers for the same couple handfuls of bigger companies that own their own datacenters. And do you want to know the one dirty little secret that they almost all share in common? They're all overselling and trying to attract you with big numbers next to disk and bandwidth because they are so cocksure you aren't going to need all of it. Now, there's not much wrong with that per se. It's just good business. Right up until, for example, some new web based peer to peer application comes out and gains instant popularity. The problem is that, if even a relative small percentage of these company's customers signficantly increased their bandwidth and disk usage to their allowed quotas, these companies would lose significant profits and even more respect.
